Two words: BK, NY

NYC baby“The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” – Maya Angelou.

Yes, I’m finally going HOME! I say and write these words with a sense of excitement, relief and anxiety. Today, there’s also a sense of pride as I listen to the inspiring words of President Barack Obama during the 44th U.S. Inaugural Address. Who am I kidding: I’m just excited to watch it live and in English.

I’m looking forward to being the social media spring intern at HelloFresh, a very cool company which is a new service providing gourmet recipes and pre-portioned fresh ingredients delivered to your door! Not only do I love the idea of having fresh food delivered directly to me – with recipes! – but I also admire their goal to produce as little waste as possible!

I haven’t been home since December 2011 and sometimes I wonder if I’ve changed too much and will experience reverse culture shock. So much has changed – Brooklyn now sports a hipster scene and I’ve been told I have a “German mentality.”

On the other hand, I’m looking forward to being around people who really know me and who I can be myself with again. I can already taste a piece of Junior’s cheesecake melting away in my mouth. After all, you can take the girl out of Brooklyn, but you can never take the Brooklyn out of the girl! Brooklyn baby – betta recognize!

Hallo Sybille! Glad you had fun in Erlangen :). I don’t have any plans to visit PA, but you never know. Hope you aren’t getting too much snow over there 😉
